Levator Spasms

Postby JODDY » Mon Jul 26, 2010 5:11 am

I am new on the forum. I have had Levator Spasms for 18 years. I was diagnosed with this problem in1992. Since then, I have seen many doctors ,took alot of different medications, and I have seen two physical therapists. Since the PT didn't work, I must have PNE. I have heard that PNE causes the Levator muscle to tighten up.

I had PNE, but it didn't cause me any muscle spasms. Are you going to try Botox injections?
PNE from childbirth 2002. TG surgery in Houston 2004. Cured of PNE pain as a result.

My pelvic floor muscle spasms turned out to be due to pelvic joint dysfunction...did either of your PT's check your pelvic bone structure for joint issues?
I was helped with Hesch Method Manual Therapy, which is a great way to correct joint dysfunction developed by Jerry Hesch. I thought so much of it I work for him now (I'm an RN). Cool thing is, there was a recent training seminar in Hesch Method in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, so if you have been told in the past you have joint dysfunction, or have reason to suspect it, or just want to get screened, I can hook you up with a local PT trained to deal with that.
Pelvic problem began - interstitial cystitis 25 yrs ago age 14
quit seeing Docs age 17, did GREAT w self care for 20 yr
2004 birth of 2nd child = more pelvic injury & pudendal symptoms started gradually
significantly disabled by pudendal symptoms August 2009.
10 months of conservative treatment later, symptoms 75% better
MRN May 2010 shows: bilateral S2 tarlov cysts, bilateral pudendal irritation, nerves entrapped in piriformis and obterator internus
gonna pursue all of the above and beat this!

Celeste, Botox injections are the only thing I haven't tried. I have heard that the botox injections make some people feel better, and some people feel worse.I just couldn't imagine this problem getting worse than it is.

Charlie, The two physical therapists that I seen were, Kelli Cutshall in Fort Worth,Texas and Kathy Tisko in Dallas, Texas. Kathy Tisko did very little internal massage. Kelli Cutshall did more internal massage, but It didn't help. She said I might have PNE. She gave me a list of doctors that do PNE surgery.

Sorry I remember you saying that on Tipna. Well I think if you have tried two PTs and one is even telling you you may even have PNE you owe it to yourself to at least get an appointment with a PNE specialist.

I notice you have been on another prostatitis forum that often suggests that PNE does not exist. Its ridiculous to make this claim. At least investigate the possibilty of PNE. You could look into botox but as you say it is a gamble. You cannot predict how your body is going to react. There have been people where the botox made the pain worse, as hard as that is to believe. The affects of botox are only temporary so if it does make it worse it will wear off.

Good luck.

FWIW, Dr. Popeney says they have seen Botox work only for people who are post op from decompression surgery. I know some patients have had it before surgery and it got them no results. I haven't heard of anybody who got worse from Botox, though.

I have levator ani as well... I had two forms of pt both internal and external which helped somewhat, Valium helps quite a bit. I've also noticed that if my piriformus muscles are acting up it affects my levator causing spasms and saddle pain. I hope to get my hip tear repaired soon and see (God willing) if that is causing my pelvic floor issues. Remember the muscles in the pelvic floor are very close together so inflammation/spam in one can cause issues with others. Hope you feel well soon.
